Bathroom

The construction market is constantly developing, offering inexpensive and high-quality products to the consumer, so repairs can be done easily and with pleasure. Modern building materials give an opportunity to make finishing works with their own hands quickly and without attracting professionals. These materials include plastic panels, which are often used for finishing the ceiling in residential and office buildings.

Bathroom decoration with plastic panels

Plastic panels are among the cheapest options for finishing the bathroom.

The ceiling of plastic panels is a metal or wooden frame, lined with a lining of PVC. Plastic can be of various sizes, products of length 2.7 and 3 m and widths of 25 and 50 cm are the most in demand. Inside such panels have stiffeners and hollow base, so they are light and durable. For ease of installation on the sidewalls, they have locks for docking. How to cover the ceiling with plastic panels with your own hands?

Plastic panels for the ceiling are different from similar products used for walling. They are much easier, because they have to withstand only their weight. Wall panels are more durable, while the ceiling panel can be damaged even by hands. Therefore, all work should be done with the utmost care.

Advantages and disadvantages

The ceiling scheme of plastic panels

The ceiling scheme is made of plastic panels.

The finishing of the ceiling with plastic panels has its positive sides:

  1. In the frame of the structure, you can hide electrical wiring, ventilation and other communications.
  2. Installation of built-in lamps and lighting is not difficult. They are resistant to high temperatures and do not emit unpleasant odors. Therefore, the usual wiring can be replaced by schemes for installing LEDs, halogen and spotlights.
  3. Simple process of installation and dismantling.
  4. The possibility of installing in the frame additional insulation from noise, moisture, sound.
  5. Wall panels are durable, durable, plastic, moisture and fire resistant, do not burn out in the sun, they are easy to clean.
  6. When the ceiling is covered with plastic panels, you can ignore the uneven surface.

The ceiling of the plastic panels also have their negative sides:

  1. Cheap plastic can pass light from the built-in lamps.
  2. The seams between the panels are visible to the naked eye.
  3. There is no possibility of making a multilevel structure or bending.
  4. Part of the height of the room is lost.

The framework for the installation of the panels must necessarily be metallic, as the tree quickly decays and decays.

Types of PVC profiles

For plating the ceiling with plastic panels you will need not only the panels themselves, but also the accessories. When visiting the construction market for the first time because of the variety of PVC profiles inexperienced buyer can become confused. But each species has its own special purpose.

Types of plastic profiles for fixing the ceiling

Types of plastic profiles for fixing the ceiling.

  1. Starting profiles are used most often. They are needed to fix the panel around the perimeter of the room on the line of the mounted ceiling.
  2. External and internal plastic corners are necessary to make beautiful joints on the corners of the room.
  3. H-profiles connect the ends of several panels.
  4. Plastic ceiling skirting is needed to hide the ends of the panels. This is the same starting profile, only with a decorative finish.
  5. F-profiles are needed to hide the ends. They can be useful when decorating adjacent walls with different materials.

Universal plastic corners hide any joints.

Calculation of materials

It is better to cover the ceiling with materials of typical sizes 5-10 mm thick, 250-500 mm wide. Typically, the panels are supplied standard length 2.7-3 m, but there are also 4-meter samples.

The area of each panel can be viewed on the packaging. Their required number will be equal to the area of the ceiling, divided by the area of one panel. When calculating the required amount of materials, be sure to add a margin of 15%, which will be used for trimming and marriage. So, on the ceiling you need 10 PVC plates, adding a stock, we get 11.5 panels (rounding off is advisable to spend in the big side).

To calculate the number of required profile, the ceiling area should be divided into strips, standing apart from each other at a distance of 60 cm: along them and mounting guides will be installed. In addition, a rigid profile for perimeter skinning is required. If desired, the metal profiles can be replaced with a wooden crate, but the useful life of such a structure will be much less.

Ceiling baseboards are sold in 3-meter segments. To calculate the required amount, you need to divide the length along the perimeter by 3, the resulting number rounded to the larger side.

Ceiling Mounting

Before starting work, the walls and ceiling must be checked for hidden electrical wiring. To do this, you can use a special detector or invite a professional.

In no case can you glue the plastic panel directly on concrete - no ventilation between the panel and the ceiling is unacceptable.

In order to prevent the appearance of an unpleasant odor in the room associated with the appearance of fungus or mold, the surface of the ceiling should be treated with an antiseptic solution. Then you need to determine the height of the suspended ceiling. In this case, you need to take into account the dimensions of the lighting devices, which will be installed directly in the panel. Usually a hanging ceiling made of plastic is installed at a distance of 6-7 cm from the rough surface.

Further along the perimeter of the bathroom, using a pencil level, a horizontal line is drawn, which will serve as a guide for fixing PVC profiles.

At the level of the drawn line, it is necessary to fix the special corners under the ceiling base with screws. After fixing the corners along the perimeter of the line, guides are installed on them. Mount them directly to the ceiling of the ceiling with the help of long self-tapping screws, and the screw must be driven so that its cap is at the level of the dash on the walls and guide corners. The guides are attached in increments of 60-100 cm.

After this, it is necessary to prepare plastic panels. Using a metal hacksaw, they need to set the desired size. Cut the slab about 5 mm less than the length of the room. To obtain a perfectly flat edge, it must be sanded with sandpaper. After that, remove the protective film from the panels. Be careful not to crumble the panel.

In predefined locations, holes are made for the lighting fixtures. They can be made as usual with a sharp knife, or with a special attachment to a drill.

Take care of the supply of electrical wires for the ceiling in advance. After the lighting fixtures are inserted in the grooves prepared for them, you can begin installing the panels. Mount them across the profiles. The first panel slides against the wall to be on the profile on three sides. The last 4 side is fastened to the frame using self-tapping screws. The following panels need to be fastened the same way, but one of the sides is fixed on the previous panel.

So you need to fix all the panels except the last one. Before fixing it, it is necessary to level the ceiling with the help of guides by twisting or loosening the screws. The ceiling level should be the same everywhere.

Next, you need to give the last panel the required width and insert it into the grooves.
