Correct and quick installation of the mixer

The mixer as a plumbing device is familiar to any person. Without its everyday use, it is very difficult to manage. But here comes the time to change it, and the question arises: what is the installation of the mixer with our own hands? Now many different mixers are used: simple and with excesses, domestic and imported. Eyes run away from the number of forms and species. With all the variety, all mixers have much in common, and their installation is subject to certain rules.

Features of choice

Any mixer is a device designed for the controlled mixing of hot and cold water with the right head, as well as for the formation and direction of the water jet. According to their purpose, they are divided into bath options (combined with a shower), a wash basin (has a long spout) and a kitchen (sink).

The main types of mixers are valve and ball valves. Gate faucets include two separated valves with handles. They are quite reliable, familiar and easily repaired. Ball-type mixers are based on the ball version of the adjusting element. Outwardly they have one handle that can move up, down and to the sides. Such specimens are more modern and more convenient, but they bear water pollution, are more difficult to repair and much more expensive.

The most common mixers, the body of which is made of brass with a coating. This case has sufficient strength, practical in use. The second most common - the case of stainless steel. Recently, there have been demanded ceramic taps with sophisticated design. Less is insufficient impact strength.

When choosing mixers, you should consider some of the features of the devices. Sometimes you should pay attention to the capacity of the mixer. So, for the kitchen is quite enough 6 l / min. For a normal filling of the bath, you need a specimen capable of 15 l / min. Usually, common mixers have a spread in this parameter of 2-60 l / min.

The design and material of the mixing element of the mixer, which regulates the flow of water, are of great importance. The largest household use is still found crane-axle boxes with rubber gaskets. They are characterized by simplicity, ease of repair or replacement, practicality, but their wear resistance is low. These elements are replaced by ceramic plates and cartridges with a cermet coating. They have increased performance and strength. In addition, ball-type stainless steel ball cartridges are used in the form of a ball with holes.

The length of the spout (spout) of the mixer determines the location of the jet of water. When choosing a mixer, you need to compare the length of the spout with the dimensions of the sink so that the water does not go past the sink. The height of the spout for the mixers can be in the range of 3 to 45 cm. The choice of the mixer should take into account the optimality of this parameter (convenience in washing and spraying of water at a high location).

It is necessary to take into account the number of mounting holes of the mixer and compare it with the previously used design, ie, one should take into account the actual supply of communications. Different models can have from 1 to 5 mounting holes for different purposes. The most common variant has two openings for two supply pipes. In addition, you can not miss with the size of these holes: in the proposed models, the spread can be in the range of 10-60 mm.

Of the additional conditions for selecting mixers, mention should be made of the appearance, i.e. the coating material (chrome and nickel coatings, enamel, gold or bronze coating, etc.). As additional elements, you can choose an aerator, special filters, check valve, thermostat, switch for connecting a washing or dishwasher, etc.

According to the decorative design, attention should be paid to the shape of the spout (spout), the shape and material of the handles, the type of shower and the length of the hose.

Installation of eccentrics

Mixer installation scheme in the bathroom

The scheme of installation of the mixer in the bathroom.

Installation work begins with securing the eccentrics. Most often, the faucets are installed on two water pipes coming out of the wall. In fact, it is impossible to accurately match the center-to-center distances of the supply pipes and the mounting holes of the mixer. Eccentrics are used to match these distances. The eccentrics are wound on both pipes using a swivel (gas) wrench.

To seal the threaded joint, the tow is usually used. Before the winding of the wax on the end of the pipe, paint is applied to the surface of the thread. You can use modern means: sealing paste (for example, "Unipack") or silicone. Pakla is wound on a damp paint with an interference against the thread. It is recommended to make a winding by a cone (the top at the basis of a carving).

The eccentrics wind up over the pakli. When installing eccentrics, it is necessary to control their location in one plane. The output end of the eccentrics is wrapped in a pake similar to a pipe.

Mounting the mixer

After installation with the help of eccentrics of the necessary inter-center distance of the fixing thread on the pipes, a mixer is installed. A rubber gasket is installed inside the union nuts. The body of the mixer is applied to the eccentrics, and the union nuts are screwed onto the threads of the eccentrics, wrapped in the pencil. Torsion of the union nuts is made alternately and evenly (one nut, then another one, etc., twists into two turns). A swivel or wrench is used.

After the free rotation stops, it is necessary to turn it again with effort for two turns, but already with the use of a soft gasket, which protects the surface of the union nut from damage. To prevent thread damage, do not overtighten the nuts.

Installation of a mixer of this type is completed by fixing the spout and shower. These elements are also fixed with the union nuts. Inside the union nuts rubber pads of the correct size are installed. All the necessary rubber gaskets are contained in standard gaskets. The union nuts are tightened with a spanner or a wrench.

Kitchen faucet

Installation of the kitchen faucet is made in more inconvenient conditions (under the sink). Initially, two flexible hoses are screwed into the mounting holes of the mixer.

The torsion is started manually, and then with a swivel or spanner for 1-1.5 turns. The pin is manually turned into the hole between the hose connections. The rubber seal is installed in the groove of the mixer located at the bottom. The mixer is inserted into the socket of the sink (sink) and fixed from below by a nut.

Flexible hoses from the tap are passed through the hole in the sink. All further installation is done under the sink (sometimes lying on the back). With a wrench, the mixer is firmly screwed onto the sink. At the same time, we must ensure that it does not turn and does not change the desired position. The second nut (lock nut) is twisted. Hoses are screwed to water pipes. The threaded connections are sealed.

The connection is usually made by means of union nuts, in which rubber pads are embedded.

Features of the installation

Faucet-mounted mixers mean that within sight only the spout projecting to the desired distance outwards, the knobs and the adjusting lever are located. Such mixers have a complex design, but have recently gained popularity. They are installed in a special niche in the wall. It supports the structural elements of the structure (usually using dowels).

With the help of hoses and clamps, hot and cold water is connected. Further, a false wall is made in the form of a decorative panel made of plastic, composite or metal. Drilled holes for the output of external elements. The external elements are fixed to the mixer by a threaded connection. The joints are securely sealed.

Flush mounting options have a decorative advantage, but are very difficult to repair. As an option, a semi-concealed installation is used, when access to the locking elements is provided, i.e., the outer part is enlarged.

Instruments

When installing mixers of different types, the following tools will be required:

  • Bulgarian;
  • dash;
  • Bulgarian;
  • wrench;
  • gas key;
  • Adjustable wrench;
  • pliers;
  • screwdriver;
  • knife;
  • scissors;
  • statue;
  • vernier caliper;
  • roulette.

Mounting the mixer with your own hands is completely accessible to any person. To ensure that the mixers (installation) do not become a big problem, it is necessary to select the right instrument, prepare a quality tool, purchase sealing elements and carefully perform the recommended work.
