Features of arrangement of a self-made shower cabin

When carrying out a major overhaul of the bathroom, it is very often thought of installing a shower. Or, in the case of a lack of free space, the installation of additional equipment due to the dismantling of the bathroom.

Very often self-made shower cabin is built in country houses, designed for year-round living. Their useful area often allows you to install all the necessary plumbing in accordance with personal preferences.

Preparation for works

Before proceeding to the independent installation of a shower cubicle, it is necessary to develop a preliminary design that must take into account:

  • dimensions of the room;
  • places of connection to communications (electricity, sewerage, water supply);
  • the possibility of exhaust ventilation from the room.

Guided by the preliminary baseline data, you can already think about which booth to do, what functions it will perform and how to place it and connect it to the communications. And, finally, it will be necessary to decide on what parts can be manufactured independently, and what will need to be bought in the store or in the construction market.

Most often, you can carry out the runoff of water and the walls of the booth yourself. With appropriate skills, it is possible to build and assemble fairly accurate doors from light metal or plastic guides and cellular polycarbonate.

Tools and materials

After the final clarification of all the details and nuances of the future construction, you need to purchase all the materials necessary for the work and prepare at least a minimal set of tools.

Since the bathroom is a wet room, waterproofing is required in any case. It can be as roll materials, and specialized waterproofing polymeric or bitumen mastics. There is a very wide spectrum on the market, so there is usually no problem in choosing a waterproofing option.

If it is necessary to erect additional walls for the shower cubicle, materials that are resistant to moisture should be used:

  • brick;
  • blocks of foam concrete;
  • moisture-resistant sheet materials based on gypsum and cement;
  • glass blocks;
  • sheets of polycarbonate or tempered glass.

The following tools may be required for the work:

  1. Tools for waterproofing and masonry work (drill with a nozzle-mixer, spatulas, trowel).
  2. Puncher - if you need to fix the frame racks to the existing existing walls, it will be needed when fixing the shower rack and accessories on the walls.

Sink installation

For self-fulfillment, the production of a monolithic base with free water flow is very suitable. The essence is to install and connect the sewer trap to the sewage pipe.

Formwork forms along the perimeter of the future cabin, and a concrete solution is poured. It is very important that the surface turned out with a slight inclination towards the drainage hole of the trapezoid. The required slope can be ensured by laying an additional layer of a thick solution after the first filled portion has set.

As an option, the slope can be formed without additional pouring. When laying tiles on the floor of the tile, the angle necessary for water flow is formed by the uneven thickness of the mortar on which tiles are laid. The thickness of the solution layer will decrease toward the drain.

To exclude wet work associated with the preparation of concrete mortar, you can buy and install a standard pallet. The materials from which they are made are quite diverse - acrylic, enameled steel, cast iron. According to the design, flat pallets are distinguished (with a low wall, up to 5 cm, with a wall), with an average height of the wall and high, which are similar to a micronized one.

The installation of standard equipment begins with the installation of a trailer. Then the pallet is attached to the floor and walls with the help of legs or special brackets.

When organizing installation works, as in the case of self-manufacturing, and when using standard purchased products, it is obligatory to carry out works on sealing the floor and adjacent walls. It must be ensured that the drain connection is properly sealed.

The walls of the shower cubicle

After the base is ready, it's time to move on to building the walls. To facilitate the work process, a self-made shower is most often installed in a corner of the room. Thus. it turns out immediately two finished walls.

If the material is brick or building blocks, the construction of the walls in principle will not differ in any way from the usual masonry works. Doing thick walls does not make sense, so they are laid out a half-brick thick. Blocks are laid out in one layer in thickness.

The use of blocks in this case is preferable. Their fairly large geometric dimensions and relatively small weight significantly speed up the process of work.

An alternative option is a plasterboard construction, assembled on a frame made of a metal profile. The plasterboard used, of course, must be moisture resistant. Visually, such material is very easy to distinguish. It is pasted with sheets of cardboard of light green color.

Walls of brick, blocks or plasterboard should be finished with ceramic tiles. It will give an interesting, attractive look and create an additional moisture barrier on the wall. In addition, care for smooth lined surfaces is easy enough.

Using sheets of plexiglass or cellular polycarbonate and metal or plastic profiles, it is possible to assemble a translucent skeleton wall. Using materials of different color shades will help to give an attractive look to the whole structure.

An interesting solution can be laying walls from glass blocks.

They are also available in various shapes and colors, which opens up a wide scope for design fantasy.

In general, for the use of self-made shower cabins, it is sufficient to erect only the walls. This option is justified for a very large area of the bathroom. The floor in the room must be made with a slope and equipped with a drain so that the scattered spray can freely slide into the sewer.

Few can boast of a spacious bathroom. Therefore, most often a closed from all sides of the space for the adoption of shower procedures.

Documents можно изготовить самостоятельно, используя поликарбонат на металлическом каркасе. Либо как вариант можно купить уже готовые из закаленного стекла или все того же поликарбоната.

Installation of doors can be carried out with the help of special glass loops or sliding guides. If necessary, the ends of the doors can be pasted with rubber or silicone gaskets-seals, which provide increased protection against flying sprays.

Equipment for the booth can be very diverse. Its range is very large - from a conventional shower faucet to the most modern shower stalls, equipped with thermoswitches, jet nozzles and rain nozzles.

The mixer or the rack, perhaps, are the only components of the booth that you definitely have to buy in the store. On sale is the widest choice of shower equipment, equipped with various functional capabilities. The choice of a specific model will already depend on the availability of the necessary options and financial capacity.

After the working equipment for the booth is purchased and delivered, it remains only to connect to the communications. To avoid unpleasant surprises in the future, it is highly desirable to carefully read the installation and configuration instructions. It usually indicates all the subtleties and nuances that must be observed during installation.

If necessary, a cover may be provided in the composition of self-made shower cabins. This will not only maintain the necessary temperature, but also take shower procedures using aromatic oils.

Installing the cover, however, will require an exhaust ventilation device. In the simplest case, an axial fan mounted in the ventilation duct will cope with this task and connected to the cab by means of a flexible duct.

After the completion of all installation works and checking the tightness of the connection to the water supply and sewerage system, you can start using the booth and deservedly enjoy the fruits of your labors.
