How best to finish the bathroom

A thorough reconstruction of the bathroom seems to many people a task beyond the reach, requiring special skills and professional experience of plumbing and builder-finisher. In fact, if dismantling of outdated plumbing modules and removal of worn coating of walls and floor can be done on their own, the placement and installation of a new one can become a stumbling block for the home master. The answer to the only question - how to finish the bathroom - is obvious and there is no doubt. Of course, ceramic tiles. After all, for the surface finish, which will be exposed to direct water, steam and dramatically changing temperatures, today it has no alternative. In more gentle conditions with high humidity, glass walls can be used. Partitions and walls of the shower cubicle can be made of glass blocks.

Finishing the bathroom with tiles, plasterboard and paint

For finishing the bathroom, ceramic tiles, moisture resistant plasterboard and paint are excellent. You can combine all this.

Correct piping

If the bathroom renovation project is ready, everything is thought out and measured seven times, if all necessary materials and equipment are purchased, it is possible to start laying and installation of water pipes, drains and sewerage. It may be necessary to remove old pipes that have rusted over many years of operation. Here you can not do without a hammer and chisel, therefore, dust and construction debris, as you have to chisel the walls to extract the old pipes. The consequences of the destruction will have to be eliminated by covering the potholes.

The walls must remain uneven and layered. New plastic pipes and flexible bends from them to plumbing modules are mounted over the walls. It will only be necessary to drill the holes for the brackets for their fastening.

In the future, the pipes will be closed with plasterboard slabs, which, in turn, will be covered with ceramic tiles in the future. The possibility of using gypsum boards under high humidity is due to their ability to both absorb moisture, and again with ease without consequences, give it away, while maintaining integrity.

If the pipes pass along the lower part of the walls, then for their concealment it will be sufficient to build a socle ledge. If the layout of the pipes is more extensive, then to cover them, you will need a crate under the plasterboard slabs. By the way, this will allow you to carry out hidden electrical wiring, install additional outlets and lights.

Plasterboard panels

If for the concealment of water and sewage pipes it is sufficient to build only a socle ledge, the crate is made only on the height of the socle. Otherwise, the crate is performed on the entire wall. Make it possible from racks of the necessary width or from metal profiles. Elements battens at intervals of about two feet are fixed to the wall with dowels parallel to the floor with the expectation that the location of gypsum panels is vertical. A mandatory condition - the placement of rails or profiles under the ceiling and the floor. Gypsum boards are attached to the crate by screws. In places where pipes are laid in the crate, cutouts are made of the correct size. Where the crate is not needed, for example, over the socket, gypsum boards are glued directly to the wall, which must be prepared with special care - leveled, cleaned and primed.

The sticker is made with a water resistant adhesive compound, prepared according to the instructions for use, on the basis of the dry blend intended for this purpose. Adhesive composition is applied pointwise directly to the gypsum board in four rows, two of which run along the edges of the panel. Press the gypsum board to the wall can be a special clamping device or simply cutting a thick bar, on which, if necessary, the tape can be fixed level. The installed panel along the edge is additionally lapped with glue. The next gypsum board is glued to the back of the previous one. Stitches between the panels are sealed with putty and ground.

Layout of walls

Cover gypsum plasterboard with ceramic tiles can start only after the glue with which they are attached to the walls, completely dry. The smooth surface of the panels with the help of sandpaper with a large abrasive is made rough, in order to make its adhesion with the glue for tiles reliable and durable. Then proceed to the marking, applying the baselines, which will be used to lay the tiles.

Tile marking

Tiles must be laid according to preliminary markings.

Most often, the base line is carried vertically along the center of the wall, ensuring that at the edges of the covered area there are incomplete tiles of the same width, avoiding, however, the situation when the extreme stripes of tiles are unreasonably narrow and spoil the overall picture. In such cases, the baseline is shifted. The peculiarity of marking the walls under the tiles in the bathroom is that it is necessary to guess so that there is a seam between the rows of the water pipes in the middle of the water pipes' outlets, and there is not too narrow a gap in the places where the wall and the bath or the sink interlock. Thus, the location of not only the vertical but also the horizontal baseline is of great importance.

Recommendations

In the presence of a concealing tube, the socle begins with the gluing of ceramic tiles on its vertical surface.

Adhesive composition is recommended to be applied to the applied surface immediately under several tiles and level it with a notched trowel. It is more convenient and quicker to make the installation, while maintaining the parallelism of the seams, if the first row of tiles is supported on a flat rail, nailed along the baseline, or on the floor, the edge of the bath or the sink, if it is certain that these surfaces are parallel to the base. Equal interval between tiles is provided by inserting special plastic crosses. Places where the ceramic tile contacts the edges of the bath or the sink, compacted with special splash shields, spread out with decorative borders, and cover with silicone sealant.

After finishing the finish of the vertical surface of the curb, the tile is continued to be placed on the wall above it. Then cover and the horizontal surface of the socle, turning it into a convenient shelf. When decorating bathrooms with ceramic tiles in places of articulation with equipment or leaving the walls of pipes, it becomes necessary to perform figured cuts in the tile. In general, the tile has to be cut in the center of the cutout, both parts are to be modified accordingly, and then glued in place. This is done with a special hacksaw for ceramic tiles.

At the final stage of the work, the grouting of the inter-joint joints is performed. Stitched directly on the trowel fill the seams with the help of diagonal movements of the rubber spatula. Excess trowel is removed by conducting at the seams with a rounded stick, simultaneously giving them an appropriate shape.
