How to collect a siphon for a bath

The main task of the siphon is to provide a water trap that prevents smell from the sewer opening. Mounting the siphon is not a complicated operation, it can even be said that it is so light that even a man without plumbing skills can do it without much effort. Therefore, you need to take care not only about how to collect a siphon for the bath, but also to equip with the necessary equipment.

Siphon in the bathroom

Siphon in the bathroom is necessary to provide a water seal that prevents smell from the sewer.

Of course, you can invite a specialist in this field, but following simple rules, the assembly of the siphon does not seem problematic, and you can save money.

Safety precautions

But, despite its ease, the assembly may not be very safe, because poisonous substances in the form of poisonous water and sludge are quite aggressive, and the gas released from the sewer is explosive. And since the nozzle will remain in the open for some time, gases and even, possibly, particles of sewage can exit. Therefore, for personal safety, you should take care of the presence of a respirator, robes with long sleeves, and do not allow the spread of the flame near the place where the siphon for the bath will be assembled.

Instruments

Sealant with a gun

When installing the siphon you will need a sealant.

Considering that modern bathtub siphons are so easy to assemble and the installation can be carried out according to the instructions, almost no tools are needed for this process, just the components of the bathtub siphon. From improvised funds will need:

  • flashlight;
  • screwdriver;
  • sealant (not acidic);
  • dense rubber gloves;
  • apron, preferably plastic;
  • simple disposable respirator.

When a siphon for a bath is purchased, the buyer must be sure of its completeness. You will need:

  • outlet nozzle;
  • threaded insert (metal);
  • резиновой прокладки outlet nozzle;
  • two nuts of plastic of the corresponding diameter;
  • conical rubber cuff;
  • installation cuff with plastic skirt;
  • a coupling stainless screw;
  • decorative plum overlay;
  • gaskets for drain parts;
  • the main body of the siphon;
  • the drain plug (rubber);
  • corrugated pipe.

All the components that will later be needed for the assembly of the bathtub siphon should be specified in the instructions. It should be noted that corrugation, of course, is much more convenient when assembling a siphon for a bath, but it must be taken into account that it accumulates a lot of debris, which it is almost impossible to rinse or pull out. But it is very easily damaged.

Before you buy a bathtub siphon, you need to measure the diameter of the current sink and buy the same size materials for the siphon. They are the same, but some foreign manufacturers still depart from the standards. In the event that you can not get the required diameter, then you will need a sealing cuff - 2 pcs.

Preparing for assembly

An example of instructions for assembling a siphon for a bath.

Some people are replacing still Soviet cast iron, the branch pipe which is conscientiously sealed in cement. Before collecting the siphon, you need to prepare a sewer hole. In this case, you need to take a small hammer, chisel, chisel in order to remove the old material and clean the cement nest, not forgetting that the Soviet cast iron for the bath is fragile. It is very important not to leave any debris in the drain pipe - this can cause clogging of the pipe and stagnant water. Select all unnecessary fallen parts when dismantling the old equipment better with tweezers, pliers or dense rubber gloves. After dismantling the old siphon, you can start installing a new one.

To understand how to assemble a siphon, you must first review the instruction and study all materials and their availability.

According to the instruction, the assembly must begin with the attachment of the corrugation to the drain pipe. Once again, it should be noted that the bath is a large object, it is quite inconvenient to install drainage auxiliary pipes from other materials, so it is better to use a corrugated pipe for it. The bath does not have a lot of drained oily water or slices of food, like a pipe in the kitchen, so the gofra will fit. To begin with, the corrugated pipe must be placed, not sealing it, in advance to understand what its size is needed. But the assembly of the siphon must be immediately sealed.

The siphon itself is a certain Lego constructor, and at first it is completely unclear how to assemble it. To collect it, first you need to take the bottom overflow into which the gasket is put. It will be located at the bottom of the drain hole. At the same time, the upper overlay is applied to the hole and is hardened with a screw. Do not tighten the screw too much - the body of the siphon (bathtub) is very fragile, can crack.

In the same way, the upper overflow neck is assembled. In order to avoid problems when connecting the pipe (removes an unnecessary part of the water) and the drainage neck, the first is better to direct slightly to the side, rather than vertically down.

The corrugated hose is connected to the drain and overflow (the instruction is included in the kit). The gasket should be installed with a thin edge to the drain and overflow neck. It should be remembered that the corrugated hose must first be put on the nut and then the gasket.

To the drain hole under the bathroom is attached a water seal. As described above, the drain port must be cleaned to the maximum so that there is no sealing problem. It does not matter which type of siphon the person wants to install in the bathroom, the water seal is attached to the neck by the union nut + a flat or conical gasket.

Connect the corrugated hose and water seal as well as the drain neck with the water seal.

The siphon is connected directly to the sewer pipe. For some siphons, a connection is made directly through the socket of the plastic pipe, but there are models that are connected by a sealing collar. If the sewer pipes are cast iron, then the cuff must be mandatory.

After these works it is necessary to check how well the quality of the bathtub siphon assembly is. For this, the bath is filled with half of the water, all the joints of the siphon are checked. If there is leaking, you just need to check how well the nuts are tightened. In some cases, the flow is caused by distortions. When assembling the siphon for a bath, no special effort is required - all siphon connecting materials must be precisely and clearly designed. Places, especially on connections with a sewer pipe, should be treated with a sealant. After it has dried, check the siphon system for leaks again. With proper installation and assembly, water droplets will not percolate. In many cases, after the assembly of the siphon, even if there is an instruction, a smell from the sewer pipe can leak. This means that the siphon assembly is incorrect. In any case, immediately it is necessary to check the siphon for leakage and for the presence of an odor, only then seal the junction of the corrugation and sewerage.

Some manufacturers provide very detailed assembly instructions for the siphon parts. But, in any case, the main thing in the siphon itself is not only the correct assembly, but also its tightness.

Standard siphons and semiautomatic assemblies are almost identical in one instruction.
