Overhaul of the bathroom necessarily involves the installation of a new mixer. Having figured out how to install the mixer with your own hands, you can save a substantial amount on the plumbing services. The installation procedure of the mixer will have a number of differences depending on whether you need to install the equipment from scratch or replace the old device.
The scheme of the device of the kitchen mixer.
If you already have plumbing in your bathroom, you will need to get rid of the old device before installing a mixer just purchased from the store. To do this, turn off the water supply by turning the appropriate valves, and then open the valves to relieve the pressure in the pipeline.
Sometimes it happens (especially often in old houses) that the inlet valves rust and do not fully cover the water supply (it goes in a thin stream or drips). In this case, you will need to proceed as follows: if you can not completely block the cold water, open any cold water tap (usually open the tap that supplies water to the toilet) located below the outlet of the mixer. As a result, the water will flow through the lower faucet, and you can safely proceed with the dismantling and installation of the faucet in the bathroom.
If you fail to discharge water under this scheme, you will have to go to the housing office or another management company and write a statement asking you to turn off the water risers completely while the work is being done. Be prepared for the fact that this service will have to be paid separately.
Check the absence of water again. If it does not flow, take the key and in turn unscrew the nuts with which the mixer is attached to the water supply system. When unscrewing, turn the key counter-clockwise.
The device is a two-valve mixer for the kitchen.
Remove the old mixer and look into the supply pipes. It is often enough to install an additional filter before entering the tap. After a certain period of operation, this filter is contaminated with rust, scale and other elements, which significantly reduces the capacity. Carefully remove any foreign matter.
After that, you can start installing new plumbing. However, before installing the mixer, you need to familiarize yourself with a number of rules and requirements. They will help to quickly perform all the necessary work, and the installed product will serve for a long time without failures and censures.
In most cases, the bathrooms already have the output of end fittings with internal threads for mounting the mixer. In the event that you are engaged in connecting the main lines with your own hands, consider the following important points:
- The inlet fittings of the hot and cold water supply must be installed at a distance of 15 cm from each other.
- Hot water is supplied to the left, and cold water is to the right.
- It is most convenient to use a mixer installed at an altitude of 15-20 cm from the bath and 60-80 from the floor level. Therefore, it is best to put the mixer in this position.
- Dunk the inlet fittings into the wall. This should be done so that when laying the tile on the wall, the ends of the fittings are flush with the face of the ceramic tile. Thanks to this you can hide the places of connection of the plumbing fixture behind the decorative cups.
For plumbing, it is best to use plastic pipes. They are cheaper and more practical than steel and cast iron products, and even a man without experience will be able to cope with welding such pipes.
Prepare the tools for installation:
Single-lever mixer circuit.
- gas and adjustable keys;
- FUUM tape (can be replaced with ordinary stick or linen thread);
- a set of hex keys;
- Screwdriver Set;
- car keys.
Often, when fitting inlet fittings, it is almost impossible to maintain a distance between them equal to 150 mm. In the event that you make a small mistake, then it's okay. Especially for this, complete with a plumbing device are transient eccentrics.
Take the selected sealing material and wind it on the threads of the eccentrics, and then screw them into the inlet fittings of the water main. Rotate the eccentrics to obtain a distance equal to or as close to 150 mm as possible. Check the horizontal level of the installation with the building level.
First tighten the body of the new mixer and make sure it is level. Check how the fastening nuts are tightened. They should be easily twisted by hand on the entire thread of the nut. If this happens rather tightly, you will need to perform a fine adjustment by a small rotation of the eccentrics, thus achieving an unobstructed twist. After that you will need to wind decorative cups, which will hide the place of connection of your new mixer to the main.
Insert the gaskets and replace the body of the product. Take the key and tighten the fixing nuts. Under the sponge of the key, you must place a piece of soft cloth, so as not to damage the cover of the nuts and the overall appearance of the product.
Do not tighten the nuts too much. The connection will perfectly seal through the gasket, and there will be no leakage.
Scheme of non-contact mixer.
Just in case, you can put pressure on the pipeline and make sure there is no leakage. In case of its presence, it is necessary to tighten the nuts additionally until the leakage is completely eliminated.
Next you will need to install a gander. Heave the nut and pull the key through a piece of cloth. Insert the gasket and screw the hose of the watering can to the main body. Insert one more gasket, only now to connect the watering can to the hose. Mark the position and location of the holder of the watering can.
Next, you will need to drill the holes for the fasteners and fasten the bracket of the water tank holder to the wall. After that, the process of self-installation of the mixer in the bathroom can be considered complete. In the end, you need to open the shut-off valves, make sure the mixer is working properly and check the tightness of the connections.
Installation above the washbasin
In the event that you changed your bath to the shower or if the bathtub is installed at such a distance from the sink that you will not be able to use a common mixer (usually this is the case in large bathrooms), you will need to install a separate basin mixer.
In this case, the process of installing the mixer in the bathroom will be a bit more complicated, more precisely - uncomfortable. To simplify installation, if possible, remove the wash basin from the fasteners or pedestals.
Screw in the mixer flexible hoses. First, you need to do this with your hand, and at the end you can tighten it halfway with the key. Do not overtighten the hose. Its design is designed in such a way that it will not pass water even when twisting by hand. In the hole between the hoses, install the stud without an additional seal.
The assembled mixer is ready for installation in the washbasin. Looking at the heel of the product, you will see that there is a groove along its entire perimeter. Insert the seal into it. It will prevent the penetration of water under the bottom of the washbasin and ensure a more rigid installation of the mixer. With the seal, the product body will not rotate with the spout.
Next, you will need to pass the hoses into the hole in the washbasin and sink under it. Further work will have to be done in the prone position. Put on the stud or studs (and there may be 2 of them, but this does not affect the order of installation), the rubber seal. The sealant has the form of a crescent. Next, you will need to put on exactly the same metal washer and screw in 1 or 2 nuts. Now take the carabiner wrench and tighten the nuts capically, first setting the device in the desired position.
After that, it will only be necessary to connect flexible hoses to the water pipes. This is done with rubber seals and union nuts, which, like in the previously discussed instructions, do not need to be pulled too much. This completes the process of installing the mixer in the bathroom. Successful work!
