If you decide to choose a mosaic tile as the facing material for the floor of one of the rooms in your house, then it is worth familiarizing with the features of the work. Before laying the mosaic tiles, you should prepare the surface, which provides for the initial thorough cleaning of the base from dust and all kinds of dirt, as well as construction debris. The surface is also recommended to degrease by using, for example, a detergent. The next step is to determine if the floor has no roughness, before starting the work it is necessary to ensure their absence, since they can cause significant unevenness and level differences between tesseras or chips. The thorough alignment of the surface before laying the mosaic tiles is so necessary for the reason that the said finish is not capable of hiding irregularities. With the help of glue, too, it will not be possible to level the deviations of the floor horizontally.
Stages of laying mosaic tiles.
Mosaic tiles can be purchased in the form of modules assembled into chips in several rows, similar blocks usually have an area of limited - 30x30 cm. In some cases, the chips are enclosed in a module by means of thick paper, which is glued to the front side of the products by the manufacturer. You can find a tile, the base of which is strengthened on a mesh surface.
Layout of mosaic parquet laying.
To install the mosaic on the floor surface, if it is reinforced by the manufacturer on a mesh basis, you can distribute the required quantity of adhesive composition by means of a notched trowel on the floor surface, which is equal to the area of one module. After that, you can lay out the tiles. In some cases, the surface needs to be pre-treated with a primer, but most often it's enough to putty and polish the surface. Specialists recommend applying glue directly to the back of the tile, but if you do not have a certain skill in masonry masonry, then this approach is better to abandon.
If, after applying the glue, the tile was not able to be laid instantly and the surface of the composition was covered with a glossy thin film, it is necessary to spread a small amount of glue, a thin layer, with a notched trowel, otherwise the product will not be held on the floor. If the module is mounted on the paper on the front side, then before starting the installation, the tile should be glued with glue. The composition of the glue mixture can be any, some experts use epoxy putty, which after application allows to obtain an extremely strong connection of the material with the surface. However, if it is necessary to dismantle the coating, the work will be more labor-intensive than using other adhesive compositions.
Alternatively, liquid nails can be used. It will be sufficient to apply this composition at the corners of the product and in the central part. Regardless of what type of module is used in the work, the next step is to act on one technology - attach the module to the surface and smooth it with a float, and apply pressure with some effort. When working with a mesh base, the glue composition will appear through it, penetrating into the spaces between adjacent chips, but if there is a base on paper, the droplets will be completely distributed under the tesserae.
Mosaic tiles should be stacked, placing between blocks of crosses with a thickness corresponding to the distance between the chips.
Laying of mosaic tiles on a grid.
To carry out the work, you need to stock up with the following tools and materials:
- laser level;
- notched trowel;
- mosaic tiles;
The final stage
Once the mosaic tiles are fixed to the surface, the chip base should be rinsed well, which will free them from glue stains that will appear in some places during the styling process.
Laying of mosaic tiles.
There is no way that would allow the mosaic tile to be laid without getting adhesive on its surface, which is true for products that do not use modules with a paper reinforcement coating. In order to clean the mosaic tile, it will be necessary to use an abundant amount of warm water and a sponge, one of the surfaces of the latter must have an abrasive base.
If a mosaic made of metal or one that has glass tesserae is used, then it is not recommended to use the sponge made of steel shavings for cleaning at the last stage of the work, as it can cause damage to the products.
After it was possible to put the mosaic on the floor with the use of adhesive, it is necessary to leave the coating until it is completely dry, which will take about 12 hours.
At the end of this time, it is possible to begin filling in with filling the gaps between neighboring chips. The composition should be filled with seams, leaving the lining for 30 minutes. Only after this, the surface can be washed with a slightly moistened sponge.
To lay a mosaic tile it is necessary with the help of transparent glue, since the composition, which has a certain shade, is able to change the appearance of the products.
In order to glue the tile the mosaic was possible as smoothly as possible, it is necessary to make a marking of the surface before the beginning of the work, dividing it into separate squares, the side of which must coincide with the dimensions of one module. To perform this procedure, you should use the laser level. When applying the formulation to the surface, it is recommended to use a tool with a 3x3 or 4x4 mm tooth. But if you intend to lay a mosaic made of stone, you can use a spatula, the working surface of which has a larger tooth.
The technology of laying the mosaic tiles is similar to that used when working with traditional tiles. However, in the case of conventional tiles, the surface can be leveled with adhesive. In addition, mosaic tiles suggest a lower consumption of adhesive composition compared to ceramic tiles.
