How to make a shower tray of tiles

To equip a comfortable shower, you can completely abandon the factory pallet. you can arrange everything yourself in such a way that the water will immediately flow into the drain on an inclined ceramic surface, and a reliable waterproofing system will protect the floors in the bathroom. Refusing a standard pallet, you only win. It is very convenient if the bathroom is small in size. In old houses, as you know, bathrooms have very modest dimensions, and to accommodate all the required plumbing, you can make a shower tray of tiles, bricks or concrete of the size and shape you need.

pros

Without a factory pallet, you will have more free space in the bathroom, which you can usefully use; people with disabilities do not have to step on a slippery surface, breaking the high edge. Finally, this choice will save your money. But before you make a shower tray of tiles, you need to familiarize yourself with the building project.

In order to properly form a drainage system, an inclined floor surface and a waterproofing layer, there must be a certain margin in the reserve (at least 150 mm).

If this condition is not met, in the shower room it is necessary to make the floor level higher in comparison with the other rooms.

The simplest version will be a shower unit without a factory pallet on the first floor (in the case of a private house), on the place where the soil itself is the basis of the floor, and not the cellar or the cellar. In the apartment of a multi-storey house, you can also not use an ordinary shower tray, only in this case it is necessary to build an additional podium to hide the waterproofing layer. By the way, the installation of the shower cubicle can be carried out directly on this catwalk.

Manufacturing

Before you start work on the construction of a shower tray, you need to carefully prepare the place designed for this design. A very important point is the arrangement of a quality waterproofing system for those surfaces to which the shower tray will be attached.

First of all, you need to build an alternative to the factory standard pallet - a shower tray made of concrete and bricks, and only then do it with ceramic tiles. you can independently make a shower tray, which will fit well into the bathroom interior and will cost you much cheaper.

For the construction you will need the following tools and materials:

  1. Cement solution.
  2. Brick.
  3. Sand.
  4. Stucco lighthouse.
  5. Mixture for waterproofing.
  6. Self-leveling solution.
  7. Mesh made of metal.
  8. Drill with a mixer nozzle.
  9. Kelma.
  10. Roulette.
  11. Paint brush.
  12. Putty knife.
  13. Draining for shower tray.

Having all the necessary tools and materials at hand, you can proceed with the installation of a pallet of tiles.

Stages of installation

The first thing to do is to properly prepare the base of the structure. Experts recommend to make a shower tray from the tiles before the final finishing of the floor and walls. In those places where the construction will be in contact with the wall, the last one is required to apply a waterproofing mixture in order to avoid the appearance of the fungus in the future. Waterproofing layer with a brush should be applied a thin layer first under the screed, then onto the screed and then before the beginning of the lining.

Laying tiles

Tile laying starts from the corner.

If you want the floor in the shower cubicle not to be cold, then you can conduct the installation of the electrical system "warm floor" under a clean screed. The system must be stacked in both the pallet itself and around it.

When the first waterproofing layer completely dries, you can start forming a brick edge of the shower tray. For this purpose, both ordinary brick and silicate are quite suitable. Brick masonry is performed on a cement-sand mixture (you can replace it with another special mortar purchased in the building materials store). To as much as possible to secure the shower, round out the sharp angle of the pallet. A metal net is laid on top of the base for greater strength of the base.

Then determine the location of the drain and install the system to drain the water. Keep in mind that the drain system must be of high quality, as it will not be possible to change the shower tray after it has been completed.

When the water drainage system is installed, proceed with the installation of the construction beacons and fill the rough screed. To do this, you can use a cement-sand mixture in which crushed stone is added.

Since the fill surface is small, use a metal spatula or trowel to level it. Seal the mixture by immersing the trowel with fins in the mixture.

Wait until the roughing is completely dry, and apply the next waterproofing layer to the surface. This is necessary so that the water does not penetrate deep into the concrete or on the floor. Remember that a quality waterproofing will prevent the development of the fungus, not only in the bathroom, but also in adjacent rooms.

The next step is applying a self-leveling solution to the completely dry surface. Make a smooth funnel-shaped depression in the drain area - this will allow the water to drain without obstructions. When choosing a drain for water, give preference to the metal, as they are characterized by the best quality.

After the self-leveling mortar has completely dried, coat the surface again with a waterproofing mortar. This layer is carried out especially carefully, blotting the areas of adherence to the surface of the walls and floor.

Masonry on the shower tray

As a covering material for a shower tray, simple ceramic tiles are perfect. Also, the mosaic will look spectacular.

For laying ceramic tiles (mosaics) you will need such tools and materials:

  1. Tile for flooring or mosaic.
  2. Water-repellent adhesive for laying ceramic tiles.
  3. Moisture repellent grout for interlacing seams.
  4. Cross-shaped beacons.
  5. Spatula toothed.
  6. Drill with a mixer nozzle.
  7. Roulette.
  8. Building level.
  9. Bulgarian.
  10. Rubber hammer.
  11. Knife for construction.
  12. Spatula rubber.
  13. Sponge.

Before you start laying ceramic tiles, prepare the adhesive solution. It is mixed with a drill in the proportions indicated on the glue pack.

Begin laying floor tiles from the corner. To make the packing correctly, apply glue to the surface of the pallet with a notched trowel, then lay the tile on the adhesive layer and press down. Using a rubber hammer, adjust the level. By means of cruciform beacons, make sure the joints between the tiles are the same.

When the ceramic tiles are laid, apply a special solution to all the seams, which prevents moisture from entering under the tile layer. Apply this mixture with a rubber spatula.

Then, with a damp sponge, wipe the surface of the pan and smack the trowel. Rinse the entire shower tray repeatedly and wipe it dry.

As you yourself understand, making a shower tray of tiles is a rather troublesome task, requiring accuracy and availability of certain skills. But with a great desire and patience, you will surely take a shower without fear for the quality of the shower tray.
