How to make a shower tray

Nowadays, shower cabins are becoming very popular. At dachas shower is simply irreplaceable, but also in apartments becomes relevant. The shower tray is one of the main elements of the arrangement of the structure.

Of course, you can simply buy a shower tray, and invite experts to the installation. However, this option is expensive and does not always meet the requirements. Sometimes you want everything to be as planned: size, shape, convenience. In such cases, a shower tray made by hand is suitable.

Features of pallets

The shower tray is a limited area where the person takes a shower, which is designed to collect and drain all the water that flows out. Therefore, the main requirements for the design are to ensure protection against spreading of water and its reliable discharge into the sewage system and the convenient location of the person taking a shower. At the same time, everything should be provided in the limited space of the bathroom. In addition, shower trays should be aesthetically attractive.

One of the main conditions is the limited area. Standard designs have a minimum size of 70x70 cm, and a maximum size of 140x140 cm. The most common is the size of one side of 90-100 cm. It is generally accepted that such dimensions make it possible to take a shower with sufficient comfort.

Protection against spillage of water coming from the shower is ensured by the use of moisture-resistant materials and a design that includes edges along the edge. On the height of the rim the pallets are subdivided into small ones - with a height of up to 45 mm; medium - with a height of 5-10 cm; Deep - with a height of 18 cm or more.

The outflow of water must be ensured by a reliable drainage system connected to the sewage system. Special siphons are used to organize such draining. The water flow should be made on inclined pipes, which can increase the height of the installation of the pan by 10-20 cm.

The shower tray must have sufficient strength to the vertical load and to impacts. It should be designed for very large people, and moving on the surface. Naturally, the material must withstand the chemical effects of cleaning, cosmetic and cleaning products at elevated temperatures.

Finally, the person during the shower should not feel any discomfort. Under his feet he must have a warm comfortable platform. The main thing is that the pallet is not slippery, i.e. had a surface with an increased coefficient of friction even with water on it.

Constructions

Structurally, any shower tray or shower booth is a hull in the form of a platform with bumps in which a siphon is connected through a drain pipe to a sewer system. On the pallet, there may be a seating area. The pallet body itself can be made monolithic and separately installed on the prepared site, and can be manufactured on site in various ways.

Pallets can have different shapes - square, rectangular, angular, oval, polygonal, round. Depending on the location of the shower relative to the walls, the most popular are the angular and rectangular shapes of the pallets.

According to the materials used, it is possible to identify the most characteristic shower trays. Acrylic are widely used. They have sufficient strength, long service life; well washed and technologically advanced during installation. Standard pallets are available in a variety of shapes and colors. Cast-iron pallets are very reliable, but they have a lot of weight. Steel enamelled pallets have one significant drawback - the unreliability of the enamel coating during shocks. Ceramic has an aesthetic appeal, but it is slowly warmed up and fragile enough.

Self-made shower trays are usually a concrete structure with a lined surface. As a facing material, ceramic tiles, plastic, natural and artificial stone are used. Very beautiful devices made of marble and granite. For decoration use mosaic elements.

Site preparation

The installation of the shower tray starts with the preparation of the place where the installation is planned. The drip tray should be located directly near the drain to the sewer. Otherwise, it is necessary to lay an inclined pipe to the installation site, which will lead to the need to increase the height of the installation. Removes anything that might interfere with the installation. Specify the dimensions and mark the place for installation. If the pallet is planned to be made by hand, then all floor covering is dismantled to a concrete screed.

The first stage of the installation of a pallet is the installation of a water drain. The main condition for water drainage is that the water must flow in a gravity flow, which is possible when the tap is tilted to an angle of at least 3 °. The design of the water flow includes a ladder and a drift. The shower ladder acts as a water intake and a siphon (water lock from odors). The drift is a piece of pipe connecting the gangway with the entrance to the sewer pipe. Usually both the gangway and the caravan are made of plastic.

Installation is as follows. The plastic hose is connected to the sewer pipe, and the junction site is treated with a sealing compound. The hose pipe is installed at the desired angle of inclination and is fixed in this position by stands made of wooden bars. On the trail is installed ladder. The ladder tube is located horizontally. The junction of the ladder with the drivetrain is sealed. The drain connection of the ladder should be located exactly at the place of marking the drain from the pallet (most often in the center of the pan). The position of the ladder is fixed by stands.

Ready-made pallets can be installed on any floor surface, as they have sufficient tightness. If the floor surface is broken by the dismantling of the previous plumbing, then it is necessary to level the floor with a mortar of a dry mortar on a cement base. A floor covering resembles the rest of the floor in the room.

The prepared pallet is installed on the prepared and cleaned floor. The legs (usually they must be at least 6 pieces) are adjusted so that the structure is horizontal, which should be checked by level. The supports and the locking bolts are fixed. If the length of the legs is not enough to be installed at the desired height (up to the level of the ladder), additional footstools of strong materials are fixed. The pallet is glued to the wall with a special glue. The joint of the device with the wall is covered with a sealant based on silicone.

The trap is passed into the drain hole of the pallet and the drain grid is screwed in. The connection point is sealed with a special tape FUM. In addition, the installation site of the sink is treated with silicone sealant.

Making the Basics

A self-made pallet is usually made on the basis of concrete, so it is advisable to provide thermal and hydraulic protection. First, the floor is leveled using a layer of self-leveling cement mixture. Then a layer of thermal insulation is applied, for example, from extruded polystyrene foam. On top of the insulation there is a layer of waterproofing made of polyethylene film and a mounting mesh. An easier way is to lay a layer of brick and waterproofing.

The pallet base is poured in several layers. For pouring it is best to use mortar of a plaster mix on the basis of cement. The first layer is superimposed on the mesh to impregnate the substrate, its thickness is 10-15 mm. On this layer, beacons are installed indicating their location of the final surface of the pallet base, taking into account that the surface has a small ramp in the direction of the drain hole, and the height of the base was lower than the level of the ladder for the thickness of the finish coat.

The second layer (main) is superimposed after the first layer dries. Finally, the base is formed by a third equalizing layer with a thickness of up to 10 mm, which is superimposed on the tops of the beacons. After this, the beacons are removed, and the surface is leveled and ground. This layer is better made from the finishing putty mixture with the addition of waterproofing compounds. When filling, make sure that there is no displacement of the drainage system.

After making the base, you need to make a side. For this, a plywood shutter is installed, which determines the height, width and shape of the rim. The formwork is poured with a cement mixture. After the drying of the mortar, the formwork is removed, and the walls of the base and the rim are exposed to plaster and putty. If the pallet has a rectangular shape, then the sides can be made of silicate brick with subsequent plastering. The entire surface of the pallet base is covered with a primer mix based on waterproofing compounds. For this purpose, a mastic based on fibreoresin, preferably reinforced.

Finishing the device

The installation of the shower tray with its own hands is completed by the lining of the base. Usually the cladding is made by ceramic or mosaic tiles. It is recommended to use a water-resistant adhesive compound for tile installation. Ceramic tiles are applied over the entire surface of the pallet (outside and inside). If a mosaic tile is planned to be installed inside, a pattern is first drawn. Then, using water resistant white glue for mosaic tiles are glued inside the device.

After the glue dries, the seams between the tiles are filled with a water-resistant trowelling mix based on latex.

After the cladding, the drainage grate is twisted to the drain of the water drain. At the place of installation of the drain, a sealing gasket is applied, and the entire joint is sealed with a silicone adhesive compound.
