How to properly connect the water heater to the water supply

Doing repairs in the bathroom, you should take care not only of the beauty of design, but also about the convenience of using the water pipe system. Modern technology allows you to achieve maximum convenience. One of the means that contribute to this is the water heater, thanks to which it is possible to get the desired hot water with one hand movement. Calling a master is an expensive pleasure, and there is no special need for it. Connecting the water heater to the water supply is also possible with your own hands (diagram in Figure 1).

On the market you can find a huge number of models of water heaters, differing in appearance, additional functions and ways of connection to the water supply. However, the main task for all of them is to heat the water to the temperature you need. Before you buy a water heater, you need to decide what characteristics of the water heaters will suit you.

Kinds

In general, water heaters can be divided into two types: storage and flow. The storage water heater is a large boiler, which is designed for the gradual heating of water. Such water heaters are suitable for those who want to save electricity, since they, in contrast to flowing water, keep the water warm for much longer. Such water heaters are specially created for the bathroom. Their big plus is that the water in them cools down very slowly due to the presence of internal thermal insulation, and the heat loss is -0.5 ° С / ч.

The storage water heater can be of completely different sizes: from 50 to 500 liters. What exactly is the volume of the water heater you need, you can understand based on the size of your family. For a couple of people, a 50-liter water heater will be enough, and further - according to increasing, depending on the number of family members and its preferences in water procedures.

The storage electric water heater is a reliable, high-quality and, above all, safe device.

The name "flowing" speaks for itself, so you can immediately determine that a flowing water heater is a kind of device for heating water by passing it through itself. This device will save your time, unlike a storage water heater, however it will require more electricity, which is its big drawback. They are produced in relatively small sizes, which gives them an advantage in location issues.

Standard Elements

Such devices for heating water are constantly being improved and equipped with new details, but there are standard elements that are always available:

  • tank;
  • thermostat;
  • element required for heating water;
  • water inlet / outlet system.

Connection Process

So, if you set out to install a storage water heater, then first of all you need to act according to the instructions, so that your work will be crowned with success.

Consider the most common way of connecting the tank, which is that the water here comes through a water pipe. Choose the place where the boiler will most conveniently be placed, and attach it there using brackets - they usually come complete. For the reliability of the mounting, there is no need to worry, since the power of the brackets is calculated specifically for the weight category of your water heater. Just for this reason the manufacturer completes the brackets himself.

A prerequisite for proper fastening, which you need to pay attention to, is the location of the drain hole below. This arrangement will facilitate the withdrawal of water from the tank. Next, you should take care to install a safety valve. But first we'll figure out what it's for. If the water pressure in the water heater exceeds 0.6 MPa, this fuse will save you from the risk of tank bursting due to high pressure. The main thing - do not forget that the valve should always be in the open state, in order to ensure the removal of excess hot liquid into the sewer pipe. Also worth mentioning is that the standard valve that goes in the kit, unlike the brackets, is often completely substandard, so for your own safety, you should buy it personally.

Then it is necessary to deal with the process of draining water into the sewer. For this you may need pipes and hoses. The hose is desirable to take the compression, as the usual hose for the garden is not designed to work with hot water temperatures. Do not forget to turn off the water in advance, as our further actions will be to seal the joint with its subsequent drying, and not having had time to dry before this process, the pipe can not be sealed. Then we continue to deal with the process of connecting the water heater to the water supply structure. If you wish to facilitate the installation of pipes, we recommend that you pay attention to pipes made of polypropylene. Such pipes will last longer, they are better, and they are easier to install than any others. Install them by welding.

When the pipe installation is finished, we will need to operate the ball valve, with which we must at this stage bring cold water to the water heater, make the connection and check it for strength. Perhaps we will need to make a seal with a sealant to ensure the perfect quality of the hose connection with the water inlet. After this, through the ball valve in a similar way, we should carry out the withdrawal of hot water.

Connecting to a source

The next step is to provide the water heater with a power source. Depending on what type of water heater you have purchased yourself, the source of power can be either electricity or gas.

After completing the connection to the power system, you should immediately check its quality, in order to avoid some problems, for example, gas leakage. If your appliance is to be heated electrically, do not forget that the bathroom should be equipped with waterproof sockets, grounding and a separate RCD.

Do not be lazy to make a check many times, because of this entirely depends on your safety. The cable that is likely to be in the bathroom, too, must have moisture resistance, maximum strength, quality and elasticity to avoid damage to it.

It should also be remembered that the inclusion of a water heater in the absence of water in the tank is an outrageous violation of safety rules. The minimal negative consequence of this is the failure of the device. Follow the instructions, put the safety of yourself and your family first, listen to the rules and advice - and very soon you will be able to enjoy the results of your work by taking a hot foaming bath.
