Self-leveling floors have become very popular due to their ease of implementation. Pour the floor can and the layman, carefully studied the instructions and carefully observing all stages of filling the filling floor. Modern self-leveling mixtures do not require the installation of lighthouses.
Technology of laying the filling floor.
Such mixtures allow to level out small irregularities of concrete or cement base. Therefore, they are not designed to equalize large differences. For this, it is necessary to make a cement-sand screed. With the provision of an ideally smooth surface, she handles perfectly.
Materials and Tools
Floor scheme and necessary tools.
For work you will need:
- a qualitative leveling mixture;
- a deep penetration primer for application to moisture absorbing surfaces;
- a device for measuring the humidity in the room;
- building level;
- a bucket for the preparation of solution;
- drill with a mixer;
- roller and brush for primer application;
- rakla for the filling floor;
- Needle roller for bulk floor;
- wide spatula.
The quality and durability of the finish of the floor will depend on how thoroughly the base is prepared. It is necessary to adhere to the technology of pouring liquid floors. Otherwise, the coating may soon crack or peel off.
The scheme of a bulk polymer floor.
Basically, the floor is made on a concrete base or a cement-sand screed. However, the screed has a drawback: it has a high absorbency, because of which the surface loses its strength and deteriorates adhesion.
First, the surface of the substrate must be thoroughly cleaned of debris. For this purpose it is better to use an industrial vacuum cleaner. Then, to impart strength to the porous base, it must be treated with a special impregnation for the cement-sand screed and concrete. It will fill all pores.
Then the surface should be covered with a primer, which will make it rough and improve adhesion with the leveling mixture. As a rule, the package contains the necessary primer for these purposes. You can use the primer "Betonkontakt". Primer should be applied with a roller or brush.
The floor can be made on the base of old tiles. Only first you need to test its strength and the absence of drop-out elements. Otherwise, it is better to dismantle it and pour the filler floor onto the cement-sand screed. Tiles should be cleaned, treated with a degreasing compound and a special primer on a polyurethane base.
Still available floors can be made on a wooden base. It should be carefully prepared, cleaned of paint, varnish and grease, ground and processed to give the surface roughness with sandpaper.
Preparation of the mixture
An aeration roll with teeth of at least 3 cm is necessary to remove air bubbles from the concrete mix.
Before proceeding with the mixing of the solution, carefully study the instructions for its preparation, which is indicated on the package of the mixture.
Pour the required amount of water into the prepared container.
Accurately pour in it a measured amount of dry mixture in the specified proportion and mix thoroughly with a construction mixer at low speed until a homogeneous mass of a uniform consistency without clots and lumps.
The finished solution should be used within 15-20 minutes. Therefore, it is desirable to first dilute 1/2 bag and practice in the pouring and distribution of the mixture over the floor surface.
Note that if you dilute the mixture in hot water, then its setting time will be shortened.
Do not use more water than indicated in the instructions, as the strength of the finished floor may deteriorate strength characteristics.
Filling with a leveling solution
The next stage of the filling floor device is the application of an equalizing mixture. Distribute the mixture on the surface of the floor followed by a wide spatula and needle roller, which when piercing the mixture will remove the air bubbles that have entered it. So you can achieve an even distribution of it.
Begin this procedure from the far corner of the room. Pour the mixture in a narrow stripe and immediately begin distributing it on the surface and removing air bubbles. The mortar must fill all the irregularities and create a smooth surface of the floor. Roll the mixture with a roller along the wall and do not rush at the same time to avoid splashing the mixture. Next, pour in the next strip and similarly distribute it. So continue to fill until the floor in the room is ready.
Consumption of the mixture of bulk floor from different manufacturers may differ, so consider in advance how much you will need bags of dry mix.
As to the time of its congealing, it depends on the thickness of the leveling layer.
A layer having a thickness of 3 mm is recommended to stand for 24 hours, that is, a leveling layer of 6 mm must be kept for 48 hours.
As you can see, it's not very difficult to properly fill the floor on your own, following the recommendations, however, you will need attention and accuracy.
