The work on laying ceramic tiles is not particularly difficult, however, in order to correctly put the tile, it is necessary to study the technology of the process. Qualitative and properly selected materials will greatly facilitate the work. Important pre-preparation of the surface of the floor in the bathroom or other room, namely the alignment with the screed.
Lay the tile on the floor is recommended from the second row.
Preparation for laying
Before you place the tile on the floor, take care of the smooth foundation for the tile. For this, a cement-sand screed is used. Before work, the surface is cleaned of dust and debris, if there are gaps, they can be sealed with mortar. After the screed has dried, a primer is applied to increase the adhesion of the substrate to the adhesive. Since the ceramic tiles are most often laid on the floor in the bathroom, it is recommended to waterproof the floor before the screed. Instead of a cement-sand screed, a self-leveling mixture can be used.
Layout of floor tiles.
Before laying the floor tiles, it is necessary to mark the floor. This removes plinths and door jambs. Next, measuring the length of the walls, find and mark the middle of each of them. Using a marking cord, previously ground with chalk, form a longitudinal and transverse line, stretching it in the intended places. If you plan to install diagonally, you should draw another line - diagonally. Before putting the tile, it is laid out on the floor to check the correctness of the laying scheme. Checking this way the scheme, you need to remember to leave some space between the tile.
The glue must be chosen, based on the type of material and the location where laying is planned.
When planning to put a tile in the bathroom or on the balcony, pick up a glue that is resistant to moisture, designed for outdoor work. For dry rooms, glue for interior works. Dry glue is diluted with water in a ratio of 2 to 1, and then mixed with a drill.
Stages of laying tiles on the floor.
For work you will need:
- grout for seams;
- Toothed and rubber spatulas;
- separating crosses;
- rubber hammer;
To lay a floor tile it is necessary, since whole tiles, as a rule, work begin with a corner located in an opposite side from an input. If there is no experience of laying, the adhesive should be applied separately under each tile, leveling it with a notched trowel. Then lay the floor tile, tapping it with a rubber mallet. After the next tile is laid, it is necessary to check the horizontality of the laid material. The rest of the material is stacked in the same way. The adhesive that acts on the sides is removed with a spatula. When stacking, dividing crosses are used.
If one of the tiles is above the others, you should press on it, calling with the others. In the case when it was lower, you need to add a layer of glue under it. At the end of the work, you must put the tile, which was previously cut, if any. Disadvantages of laying the material can be corrected within 15-30 minutes. Separating crosses can be removed 24 hours after the end of work. Grout is carried out after the glue has completely dried out, therefore it is better to wait about 36 hours.
Grouting is the last stage of the work, during which the seams between the tiles need to be filled with a special compound. It is best to choose a grout in the color of the material, if the desired coloring does not appear, you can add a dye of the desired color to the white grout. Dry grout is diluted with water in a ratio of 4 to 1, the resulting solution is used immediately (within two hours after cooking).
Now, using the rubber spatula, the seams are filled, the excess grout is also removed with a spatula. After the grout dries, its excess should be washed off with a damp sponge. On the tile in the bathroom you can apply a moisture resistant compound that protects the seams from penetration of moisture. The composition is applied to the seams with the help of a brush.
Use the finished floor covering of your bathroom, kitchen or loggia only after the glue and grout have dried. Especially dangerous for the floor after laying heavy furniture, because the load on the material should be uniform.
Thus, if you follow the technology of laying, you can independently lay the tile on the floor, making sure that the bathroom or loggia had a perfectly laid floor covering.
