The greatest popularity now begins to get the staining of the walls in the strip. Many do not know how to paint the walls in stripes with their own hands correctly. Unlike the usual standard painting of walls, drawing strips requires some care and adherence to the most important rules, without which the result will not turn out qualitative.

Wall Preparation

Before taking on the painting of the walls, it is necessary to thoroughly prepare the surfaces. As a rule, the walls for painting should be perfectly even. Especially it concerns the walls on which it is supposed to make stripes. Curved walls visually warp the strips, which in the end will look inorganic.

So, first the walls are freed from the old covering completely. If this is a wallpaper, then they should be torn off with paper, if there is one under them. If there was paint under the wallpaper, it is necessary to use a special solution that provokes the blooming of the old paint and makes it possible to remove it completely and easily.

After this, it is necessary to try to remove loosely adhering old plaster and putty. If this is not done, they will eventually fall off and break the wall. If the material is held securely, you can not touch it. Next, the walls are covered with a primer, are sealed and shpaklyuyutsya, and if necessary aligned. In the end, you need to apply generously one more coat of primer and wait until it is completely absorbed.

Design selection

Dimensions of horizontal and vertical strips for walls

The next stage is the selection of a specific strip design and their marking on the walls. First, decide on the width. Walls in a strip of large width can reduce the room. A lot of narrow stripes will make the room colorful, which is not always desirable. The optimal option is to use strips of medium thickness, alternating them with thinner or thicker ones.

If you have low ceilings, give your preference to vertical strips. At high ceilings, horizontal bands can be used. But you need to be careful, because if you do not want to completely strip the entire wall, but only a separate section of it, you must abandon the horizontal lines. Then the best option is to choose the alternation of vertical bands.

It is important to immediately decide on the color scheme. Stripes can be the same color, or different. A very large contrast will give the room a mottled look. Experienced designers recommend either to choose colors that are similar to each other, or to stop on gradients. Whichever color you choose, the gradient from dark to light will give the room a feeling of lightness and mystery. And it always looks pretty cozy.

Line marking

After that, you need to paint the wall in the main color, which will be the base color. It should also blend well with the color of the bands. It is better to stop on matte paint, and then make the stripes glossy - so they will look more impressive. Leave the walls to dry for about three days.

Now you can start marking the walls for striping.

It is very difficult for beginners to correctly mark the wall in stripes, since in this work it is extremely important to make sure that all the lines are fairly even. Therefore, for the markup, be stocked with tools such as:

  • roulette;
  • chalk or simple pencil;
  • Painting tape;
  • building level;
  • plumb;
  • A small ruler for small measurements.

First, estimate how many bands you want to see on the walls. What thickness should there be bands? Then from the top of the wall down, make a markup using a tape measure and chalk (pencil). Do not forget to use a plumb line if the strips are vertical, or the building level, if they are horizontal.

When the lines are applied, it is necessary to glue the adhesive tape on their edges. At the same time, it is necessary to apply it so that the main lines, which will be dyed in separate colors, are protected on both sides by strips of adhesive tape. So at you they will turn out equal, and the paint will not get on nearby strips.

When sticking an adhesive tape it is important to observe several important rules. First of all, it is necessary to try to press the adhesive tape tightly against the wall. To do this, use a spatula well. If this is neglected, the paint will fall under the scotch tape. Then you will get the lines with uneven edges. And then it will be very hard to fix this.

The second rule is to protect the floor and ceiling well from getting paint from strips. To do this, tape joints are carefully pasted with adhesive tape. This is especially important if the ceiling is already finished. Correct the hit of paints on the ennobled ceiling is difficult, so take care of advance protection.

Thinness of application

Now you can proceed directly to staining. How to paint the walls in stripes?

With wide stripes it is very convenient to work with a roller, and with narrow ones - a soft brush.

Keep in mind that the more the colors of neighboring strips differ, the more layers of paint need to be applied. It is enough 2-3 layers. But if they are gradient lines, then one can do just one layer.

When painting, try to work so that the paint on the wall is not in excess. So you can avoid streaks. At the same time, try using a brush or roller to go a little bit on the scotch tape. Do not be afraid that the paint through it will permeate onto the wall. This is out of the question. But the strip will be optimally level, and their edges will not be torn.

Now you only need to remove the paint tape. It is advisable to do this in half an hour after painting, but not more than an hour. Then the paint will not peel around the edges, and the tape will be removed easily and without residue. You will remain dyed in a similar way other strips. Walls in stripes are ready!
