Plywood is a unique material that simplifies the finishing work. But in itself it is not a finishing finish. To make the room look finished, the use of additional finishing materials is required.
Tiles on plywood must be laid when the floor is uneven.
Such is the tile. However, it is customary to lay the tile on a more solid surface - a concrete screed. Thus, it is possible to avoid deformations of the finishing material in the future. But today the masters bravely put the tiles on the plywood. This is possible due to some peculiarities of construction work.
Preparation for laying
The first thing you need to take care of the basis for the tiles. This is necessary in order for the finishing material to fit on a perfectly flat and sufficiently strong surface. This can reduce the likelihood of cracking tiles. The following tools will be required for the work:
- building level;
- sharp forgotten knife or hook;
- putty knife;
Tools for plywood
To relieve the stress that occurs on a large surface area of the plywood, it is preliminarily cut into four parts. Given that this material is usually sold in the form of sheets, it can not be divided using a tape measure and a hacksaw. The thickness of the sheet should be an average of 22 to 28 mm. In the case when it is planned to lay a tile on a plywood, and as a rough floor lugs appear, then a sheet of 30 mm thick should be put into operation.
Materials for work:
Tools for laying ceramic tiles.
- self-tapping screws;
- liquid waterproofing;
- adhesive composition;
- fixings for tile joints.
Solving the question of how to lay a tile so that it is not subsequently deformed, you need to think over the option of fixing, through which the plywood will be fixed firmly. For this, self-tapping screws are used. Usually this method is used for finishing the wooden floor (parquet board, logs), so it will be very easy to fix pre-cut plywood squares on the base in staggered order.
It is best to use two sheets of substrate, which for hardness is recommended to glue together.
Before laying the tile, you should still clean the plywood. This is done to ensure a flat surface. The next step is the treatment of the substrate with a primer. For high-quality impregnation, plywood sheets are processed in two stages. The second layer of the primer is applied after the first coat has dried completely. Another nuance of the preparatory works is impregnation of the wood with a waterproofing mortar. This stage of work precedes the application of the primer.
To put the tile on any foundation, you need to perform a series of similar operations. But for each type of substrate there are own rules and features of the work. If you lay tiles on plywood, then you need to act quickly, since the adhesive begins to grasp almost immediately - during the first 15 minutes. The complete drying of the adhesive takes considerably longer.
This explains the need to work in small areas of the premises - no more than 1 square. m. It is also not recommended to prepare a large amount of adhesive. Lay the tiles on the plywood follows from the wall, which will not be covered with furniture. In addition, you need to start work from the second row of tiles. To ensure that all lines are even, the building level is used. If you start work directly from the wall, then after the process of laying near the opposite wall, it may turn out that a number of tiles do not fit and you will have to cut the tile.
Layout of tiling on plywood.
The tile should be placed taking into account the humidity level of the room. For example, in a room with excessively high humidity it is recommended to make seams of at least 5 mm. In all other cases, 2-3 mm will suffice. It is not always possible to lay the tile evenly, so it is possible to adjust it as you work, until the adhesive has begun to grasp. So you can avoid flaws in the work, especially if the experience is not enough.
When choosing a brand of glue, it is recommended to pay attention to materials that are suitable for working with this composition. If this is ignored, the end result will not be too good. To put the tile, you need to choose brands that are designed to be applied to a special kind of material - drywall, plywood. Mix glue with a construction mixer. So you can achieve an almost perfect consistency of the composition, without lumps.
Scheme of grouting joints.
After the area of the room was covered with tiles, it remains only to take care of the appearance of the surface. It is about the quality of the execution of the joints. The tiles should be laid on the plywood fairly quickly, but so long as the glue dries, you will have to wait about 5 days until it is ready for further work. Despite the fact that in 15 minutes. after working with the adhesive, it begins to slowly seize, its complete drying takes a long time.
After this time passes, you can begin to grout the seams. For this, special materials are used, which are applied with a small rubber spatula. It is this kind of material that will allow qualitatively wiping the cavities of the seams without leaving a large amount of material on the tile. After finishing the grout, wait 15-20 minutes until the joints dry. After this, the excess material left on the tile is removed with a dry rag.
As a result, it is possible to put a tile quickly and qualitatively. After all, to implement the option of laying tiles on a concrete screed, you will need an order of magnitude more materials and, accordingly, funds, as well as time, experience and strength. Therefore plywood is a good alternative to screed, but provided that it is possible to securely fix the plywood sheet. For this, a parquet board or floor on the logs is suitable. In both cases the plywood will be attached to the wooden surface. And then using self-tapping screws will simplify the task of installing the substrate.
Given all of these nuances, you can not doubt that the independent implementation of the laying is entirely within the power of any unprofessional worker.
