Making a box in the bathroom of plasterboard

The repair of a bathroom by one's own hands is a painstaking process, in the organization of which it is necessary to take into account all the features of this room. Particular attention is paid to the fact that it is in the bathrooms are running water and sewage pipes. From this, the decor can suffer a little, but the question is solved. You can make aesthetic boxes of plasterboard with inspection hatches.

What is a box? This is a drywall construction that completely closes the niche with communications located behind the toilet. In the case at a convenient height a special inspection hatch of aluminum or plastic is mounted, it can be bought at an affordable price. Pipes in this case are not visible, but to them and to the counters there is free access. You can check the readings of water meters at any convenient time, if necessary, determine whether the pipes need any repair work.

The box itself after the construction is decorated with ceramic tiles under the color of the rest of the bathroom. The interior is aesthetic and modern, the communications are not visible. The same box can be made in the bathroom to hide the sewer pipes beneath it. As a result, no sewer pipes and water pipes, only beautifully laid out tiles and plumbing.

Preparatory work

Tools for the manufacture of boxes

Tools for manufacturing the box: drill, electric jigsaw, metal scissors, ruler, building level, tape measure, pencil, gon.

Before starting the repair, a number of preparatory works should be performed. It is necessary to visually inspect all the pipes. Even if they are completely new, this does not mean that no leakage or other defect can occur during operation. After installing and plating the box, it will be difficult to replace them, we'll have to dismantle the whole construction.

If the pipes are old metal or cast iron with traces of corrosion, they are recommended to be replaced. Such communications in a box are useless to hide. If required, water meters are placed on the pipes, additional cranes are mounted. Next, prepare materials and tools for work:

  • building level;
  • roulette;
  • a simple pencil;
  • profiles for GCR;
  • sheets GKL (water resistant or treated with a hydrophobizer);
  • self-cutters for metal and plasterboard;
  • metal corners;
  • screwdriver;
  • a container for kneading putty;
  • dry putty mixture;
  • putty knife;
  • ribbon-serpyanka;
  • ready inspection hatch.

In the bathrooms, pipes can be laid differently. If they are in a horizontal arrangement, then the gypsum board will turn out to be small. It is mounted along the floor, it can act as a convenient shelf. Ceramic tiles are used for finishing the structure. With a vertical arrangement of pipes go from floor to ceiling, so niches are more convenient to place behind the toilet. It is possible to install not a small observation hatch, but to make a real hidden locker with many shelves.

To make the bathroom aesthetic, it is equipped with a box, but first you need to determine what form it will take. Most often the niche is closed behind the toilet, but this is not always possible. It is recommended to pre-compose a drawing with dimensions, indicating how much the box will protrude beyond the wall. After this you can start the installation work.

It should be measured, determine the direction of the pipes. They do not always go vertically, in some communication baths they are laid horizontally along the floor. Then proceed to install the profile for fixing the GCR. In this case, you can also use wooden slats, but it is best to buy a special aluminum profile, which is suitable for the construction of interior partitions. The profile is fastened together by a self-tapping wall and a separate strip is laid along the floor and ceiling. We must not forget that the frame for the hatch should be at a convenient height, consistent with the dimensions of the already completed hatch. For a skeleton jumper is used, they are attached to the profile guides by corners. This is done to ensure that the box is more rigid and durable.

Next, fixing the plasterboard. Since it will be used in the bathroom and the bathroom is a place of high humidity, a special waterproof GCR is purchased. You can use a conventional wall, but its surface is preliminarily coated on all sides with a hydrophobizator. Tape measure and pencil measures the necessary piece of drywall, then it is cut with a sharp knife. Fasten the sheets with special screws and a screwdriver. You can not leave large gaps. Then the inspection hatch is mounted on the frame.

Finishing Options

Finishing the box

It is best to trim the box with the same material as the walls - so it will be less noticeable.

There are many options for finishing the box, most often ceramic tiles are glued on the plasterboard, but special plastic panels can be used. The choice depends on what will be the overall decor of the bathroom. If the walls are tiled, then the same material is best used for the box. If desired, the tile can also be glued to the hatch cover. It will turn out entirely hidden, which will have the most positive effect on the bathroom interior.

To trim the box with tiles, it is necessary to prepare such materials:

  • tile under the tone of the rest of the bathroom;
  • special tile adhesive;
  • зубчатый металлический putty knife;
  • a container for mixing the solution;
  • drill with a mixer attachment;
  • Plastic cross-dividers for tiles;
  • clean rags;
  • tile cutting machine;
  • grout of the selected color.

Laying tiles on the box begins with the fact that the surface is marked. You should start with whole tiles, be sure to consider whether the tile will be glued to the door of the hatch. The glue is applied with a notched trowel on the back of the tile, which is then firmly pressed against the plasterboard for a couple of seconds. It is best to start from the top, so it will be much more convenient.

Between the tiles must be observed flat seams, for this, and used plastic crosses, which are inserted into 2 pieces on each side. So the entire box is finished, small pieces and the door must be installed last.

A day later the crosses are removed, a special color grouting is stitched into the seams, which gives the surface a more finished and attractive appearance.

Plastic panels - this is also a common option for finishing the bathroom. They are used for the installation of the box in the event that the rest of the bathroom is finished with the same material. Panels have a pleasant appearance, they are light, not subject to negative influence of moisture. Mounted plastic is almost the same as tile, but for it you can not use grout and crosses. The panels will be glued without gaps.

The bathroom cabinet is used to close all sewer and water pipes. It is made of profile and GKL, after installation it is covered with ceramic tiles or decorative plastic panels. Time to create an aesthetic finish is not enough, but the bathroom gets a more attractive and comfortable appearance.
