Stages of installation of a metal bath

Installing a bath is not an easy task, because it is a bulky object and requires careful handling. It is important not to spoil the coating and do not deform it during the installation. The main stages of the installation - assembly, installation, connection to the sewerage system, sealing joints.

Metal baths are beautiful, inexpensive and have a number of advantages. They retain an excellent appearance for a long time due to enamel coating, made at a high temperature. Baths made of steel are plastic, therefore they are represented by a large assortment of shapes and models. They are not subject to scratches and mechanical wear.

Main stages

The sequence of works is as follows:

  • floor preparation;
  • fastening guides;
  • assembly and installation of the bath;
  • adjustment of legs;
  • sealing joints;
  • grounding device;
  • montage of the screen.

Materials and Tools

Tools for bath installation

Tools for bath installation: drill, construction level, wrench, electrical tape, chisel, hammer, screwdrivers, rag, sealant, cuff, brick, cement, sand, corrugated.

Before the beginning of work it is necessary to level the level of the floor, make a waterproofing, lay the tile, check the condition of sewer pipes, drainage fittings.

Self-installation of the bathtub is quite possible if you first study the materials and get expert advice.

Siphon selection

There are many kinds of siphons, and it is better to choose one that is easier to install.

The siphon consists of 2 parts, which are installed in the overflow and in the drain hole by means of a corrugated pipe.

You can buy a semi-automatic siphon, which drains the water with a special washer, fixed over the water, which is a more convenient option. In the bathrooms of a small size, you can use a conventional plastic siphon, which is installed without much effort.

There are on sale products with metal releases, which bolt to the siphon and overflow. They have a beautiful appearance, they are easy to install, but fasteners and metal parts can be corroded if they are not made of stainless steel.

Connection Features

Steel bath is well installed in small rooms, because it can be tightly fixed to 3 walls. Weight of metal baths is small, and they can be easily transported. It is better to choose models with a wall thickness of 3 mm.

Installation of the bath begins with the arrangement of the floor. An important point in choosing a bath model is the location of the sewage pipe. The distance from it to the drain hole must be such that it is possible to install a siphon. Sometimes additional pipes are used, if this distance is large.

Most often the pipe is located in the floor, but sometimes it comes out of the wall, and you need to take into account the height of its location. In this case, a connecting adapter with a slope is used so that water does not remain in the bath. The diameter of the receiving pipe can be from 50 to 100 mm. Buying a bath and a siphon, it is necessary to buy adapters and extension pipes.

Scheme of attachment of legs to the bath

Various models of the plumbing fixture have different options for fixing the legs: threaded screeds, hooks, double-sided adhesive tape, corners.

Preparation of the bath is to strengthen the legs, install a drain siphon and insulate. The legs supplied with the sanitary appliance are more often used to install the bowl in the level, and the rigidity is achieved with the help of brick supports.

Using the level and adjusting the legs, you can achieve an accurate installation. To give stability, use hooks that are screwed into the corners. The bath is put in place and the hooks are twirled.

It should take into account the height of the legs. They are adjusted so that it tilts toward the drain hole, if the model to be installed does not have an inclination angle. Sometimes the legs do not have enough height, and then you need to make under them pads of several, glued together with silicone tiles.

Some models have corners welded to the bottom, using which you can fasten the legs with bolts. Legs are heel bolts, which are adjustable in height. Fix them with special clips.

The bath is installed on the legs, and the gap between the wall and the side is eliminated with mounting foam and sealant. A securely fixed bead will not allow the tub to roll over in the event of a significant load on one side. The joint can be made with the help of plastic, tiles, water repellent paint.

To heat the bath of steel and reduce the noise from water use foam. The bottom of the bath is moistened with water, blow out with a mounting foam, and leave to dry for 5-10 hours. Usually the foam consumption is about 3-5 cans.

The collected bath is connected to the sewage system. The outlet from the siphon is inserted into the socket of the sewer with a flexible hose and sealed with a gasket, which is tightened with a nut. You can use a rubber cuff for connection.

Then, the tightness of the joints is checked. Collect water and check the density of joints. If there are water leaks, check the reliability of the gasket and the twisted nut.

All connections are wiped, hot water is poured in and the tightness is checked again.

Grounding the bath is done using a wire that is attached to the tub and metal structures. Do not ground to water or to heating devices.

To improve the aesthetic qualities under the bathroom set the screen. It can be made of profiles, plasterboard and tiles.

Installation on brick supports

Supports made of bricks provide a capacity of full immobility, so often a steel bath is installed on a brick pedestal or supports. They ensure the reliability of fastening and prevent the occurrence of cracks in the joints.

Of red bricks lay out the supports, which have a height of not less than 60 centimeters. For work you need about 20-26 bricks. The back support is a few centimeters higher to facilitate draining the water, but you need to consider which model you will install.

Modern models of baths have a small angle, so there is no need to do supports of different heights. Lay out the supports of brick and mortar, which should stand for about a day. Brick posts are placed between the legs of the bath.

To fasten the metal bath to the brick supports use a sealant, and to the wall it can be fixed with glue and metal profiles.

Correctly installed steel bath will not differ in its characteristics from the more expensive acrylic sanitary devices.
