Baths made of cast iron differ from steel and acrylic with their properties to keep the heat for a long time and to warm up evenly.
Cast-iron bath differs in that it retains heat for a long time and evenly heats up.
The advantages of such a bath include its durability: many old houses are equipped and to this day with cast iron products installed in Soviet times. When you need to install a cast iron bath with your own hands, the main thing is to approach this process with all responsibility.
Features of the installation
Such a device can not be raised independently, it will require the help of another person, because the bath can have a mass of more than 100 kg. Installation of the product from cast iron and its transportation are carried out by two people.
When it is necessary to lift a bath without a freight elevator, it is carried by drain holes in the opposite direction from the traffic. You need to place the device in the bathroom in an upright position, so that it does not take up much space. To protect the new product from scratches and bumps, the threshold and door jambs are covered with soft material.

The room should be suitable for installing a heavy bath. The most important thing is to prepare the floor surface. It installs a concrete screed, and a hard ceramic tile is laid on top of it. When there is no possibility to lay a new tile, it is enough to put a plate of steel under the legs of the bathroom. Their width should be not less than 5 cm, and the thickness - more than 0.5 cm.
The difficulty in moving and the mass of the object imply a careful attitude to the decoration of the walls, which is carried out by the following methods:
- walls are fully tiled with tiles before installing the bath (the method is suitable for repair work in the bathroom with the replacement of the old device);
- finishing works are carried out over the bathroom and allow to bring its edges into the wall (installation of the bath allows to reduce the distance between the wall and the edges of the product, which reduces the amount of water that flows to the floor).
The room must be waterproofed, otherwise the water will disturb not only the hosts, but also their neighbors.
To install the bath you will need: a key, bolts, a level, a hammer.
Installation of the bath will not do without:
- the adjustable wrench;
- fastenings for legs;
- silicone gel;
- rubber gaskets;
- pipes made of plastic.
Installation of articles
First turn off the water in the house, open the taps and drain it from the pipes. The cast-iron product is installed on one side. Its bottom should be directed to the wall, where it will be further exploited. The distance from the bath wall is 70 cm. When everything is ready, the first two legs begin to be mounted. There are two methods for installing a cast iron bath:
- On the screws.
- By driving wedges.
The legs are attached to the screws that come complete with bolts.
Do not tighten the bolts too much, as this may cause damage to the attachment.
The scheme of installation of a bath.
When the mounts are unusable, the bath is no longer in use. If the product is loose after fixing, the bolts must be tightened.
Installation of the bath with the use of wedges is as follows: fasten the legs on the attachments located on the bottom of the bath and drive in special wedges. During the installation you need to be as accurate as possible and do not put much effort into it. As a result, the parts must be stationary.
Next, the device is turned over and put in the position in which it will be used. Then the side where the legs are not yet attached is raised to a height that is sufficient for the construction of the parts and placed on a board of 50 cm. The legs are mounted in a manner similar to the first two. To ensure that the product does not slip, pads are placed on the floor surface, which are fixed with a small amount of polymer glue, so that the cast iron device is firmly in place.
When installing the bath yourself, you need to know that the slope in the direction of drainage should not be, because the manufacturer provides this nuance. All that needs to be done is to level the sides of the bathtub. For the accuracy of measurements take a long level. Correction is made from one end and one side, which adjoin the wall. In this case, the gap from the bath to the wall should be at least 1 mm. When the sides are aligned, the product moves to the wall.
After that, plumbing communications are connected to the bathroom, which come complete with it. To the hole on the top, set the drain-overflow, which leads to the siphon. The siphon is attached to the drain hole below. From it they carry a pipe to the sewer. To ensure a better connection of plumbing structures from plastic rubber pads are used.
In conclusion, check the tightness of the joints. The bath to the brim is filled with water, and the possible leaks are monitored. Under the pipes, where there are junctions, a newspaper is lying on which drops of water will be visible. The one who makes the installation of the bath with their own hands, should know that the product of cast iron is grounded by electricians. To make everything airtight, the space from the bath to the walls is covered with silicone or a tape of plastic.
