Before asking the question of where to start putting tiles, you need to prepare tools for doing this kind of work.
Figure 1. Options for laying floor tiles.
In order to make glue, you will need:
- A measure for water and a container for measuring the dry mixture;
- a bucket in which the components will be mixed;
- a drill equipped with a mixer.
For marking and laying tiles you will need:
Figure 2. Diagram of laying the tiles diagonally.
- tape measure, pencil, gon;
- tile cutters, as well as crowns for tile, drills and ballerinka;
- Bulgarian and disc on tile;
- conventional and notched trowels;
- rubber hammer;
- level, plumb bob;
- Expanding crosses and wedges;
- rubber spatula for grouting joints.
Tiles - one of the most popular facing materials used to decorate bathrooms. But it needs to be glued to the surface correctly. Otherwise, even the most expensive tile will look awkward. If the bathroom plans to cover both the walls and the floor, then start laying the tiles from the floor.
Finishing the floor
To make the flooring attractive, you must, first of all, make a markup, determine how the tiles will lie. For this it is necessary to find out where the front (most prominent) places will be. It is with them that you need to start laying out the tile. There must be only a whole material, and the remains will go to the facing of places inaccessible to the eyes.

There are several options for placing tiles in the bathroom on the floor. The most common are the "seam in the seam" and the "rip-off" (Fig. 1). The order of laying each tile is indicated by a number.
But there is another quite popular way of facing - "diagonally". In this case, in order to properly lay the material, it is necessary to draw diagonals and determine the center of the room. Begin to lay a tile is from him (Figure 2).
After the method of tile location has been determined, it is necessary to put the material "on dry". And it is desirable to fix the result on paper - this will be a kind of help plan. Next, you can prepare the glutinous solution, guided by the instructions on the package, and proceed to laying, if the floor was prepared, ie, cleaned from the previous lining and aligned.
Quite often you can find the need to soak the tiles. In those cases where the laying is done on a cement-sand mortar, it is desirable to perform such a procedure, since a better setting of the substrate with the material is then ensured.
If the pasting is carried out with the help of ready mixes, it is not recommended to wet the tile, because in that case the proportion of dry powder and water will not be observed. This can cause the setting time to increase significantly.
To start laying the tile, it is necessary to sketch the prepared mortar with a conventional spatula on the floor surface (in the place where the first ones will be stuck). Then distribute it with a notched trowel (Figure 3). Strictly by marking, lay out the tiles. To put them evenly, each should "sit down", focusing on the level, while gently tapped the tile with a hand or a rubber mallet. There is another way: the glue is not applied to the floor, but to the tile itself. Similarly, it is distributed over it with a notched trowel and is glued (Figure 4).
Figure 4. The glue can be applied not only to the floor, but also to the tile itself.
After the work on the floor is finished, you can go to the walls, first protecting it from possible damage. It is necessary to protect both the bathroom and the plumbing fixtures, which can be stained or broken during operation.
Tile on the walls must be laid from the bottom up.
As a rule, the series begins to spread from the middle to withstand symmetry.
Figure 5. The process of laying tiles in the bathroom.
In order for the cladding to look organically, you can "try on" one row of tiles without glue on each wall, and then apply marking. It is very important that the first row is laid flat. Therefore, the verticals are marked with a plumb line, the horizontal is observed using the level. To obtain neat stitches, use dowel crosses that are removed after drying.
When laying tiles in the bathroom there are some nuances. Regardless of whether the wall behind the bathroom is tiled or not, a whole tile should be placed on the edge. If you start to lay out the rows from the floor, it can happen that only a part of the tile will be visible. This does not look very aesthetic. Therefore, it is recommended to start putting the tiles from the sides of the tub upwards (Figure 5).
After the first row has been laid on one of the walls, it is necessary to glue the tiles on others, that is, move in a circle. If you lower this requirement and put the tile first on one of the walls, and then on the other, then on the adjacent walls, even because of minor misalignments, the seams may not converge. To correct the situation it will be possible only by dismantling the entire cover.
In general, anyone can put a tile in the bathroom. The main requirement that must be met is a constant control of the verticality and horizontal alignment of the rows. A neatness and patience necessarily will do the job qualitatively.
